FAQs answered

What is a decanter?

A decanter is a vessel used to hold liquid. They can be used for many different types of alcohol, including wine, whisky and gin, although certain types and shapes of decanters work better for certain spirits. For example, a whisky decanter can have a stopper, due to being a spirit that does not need to breathe. These stunning accessories not only keep your alcohol safe in a presentable form but also show off your individual style.

What are decanters made from?

Decanters are traditionally made from crystal or glass. Our beautiful crystal glass decanters are manufactured in partnership with Dartington and we pair these with stunning stoppers designed in our historic factory in Birmingham.

How long do drinks last in a decanter?

How long drinks last in a decanter depends on a number of factors, including the drink in question. For example, wine will only last in a decanter for a few days, as it will start to oxidise. With an airtight seal though, spirits will last for years and, even with a looser fitting stopper, can be stored for months. As a long term storage solution, however, a decanter is probably not the best choice as, after 2 or 3 years, you’ll start to see discoloration and a loss of flavour intensity from the drink itself.

What is the best way to clean a crystal decanter?

The most important thing to remember when it comes to cleaning your crystal decanter is to avoid anything that may leave scratches. Use a soft cloth and, if there is staining, use a mixture of salt and white wine vinegar to remove these stains. Afterwards, use a kitchen towel to dry your decanter to avoid stretching the glass.
