THE HOUSE OF DEAKIN & FRANCIS

Our Heritage

Having never veered from the high standards of craftsmanship and quality, Deakin & Francis is original design, carefully executed and beautifully delivered.

1786

The Beginning

Founded in 1786 by Benjamin Woolfield, Deakin & Francis is nestled in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter and holds over 238 years of heritage. As England’s oldest manufacturing jewellers, the House of Deakin & Francis remains in the same building today as it began in, dating back to the Industrial Revolution.

19th & 20th Century

Evolution

Between the 19th and 20th centuries, Deakin & Francis were primarily a B2B business, being renowned silversmiths within the jewellery trade for some of the world’s most iconic brands and key figures. As the business grew, the factory was converted for industrial use and later employed over 200 craftsmen and jewellers to manufacture silverware and jewellery for a global audience.

2024

Today

Following in his forefathers’ footsteps, today the business is managed by Henry Deakin who is a fully qualified gemmologists, and allumni at the International Gemmological Institute in Vicenza. The company has shifted its focus to establish itself as a brand rather than a white label manufacturer, and continues to work with precious metals, vitreous enamels and gemstones to create its signature jewellery.

21st Century

The Future

Through world wars, recessions, global pandemics and changing fashions and trends, the brand has adapted to the demands of their clients. Deakin & Francis’s steadfast team of highly skilled and meticulous craftsmen continue to deliver beautifully designed products of the highest quality whilst continuing to build on the heritage, brand and family values that have been established over the past two centuries.

Keeping tradition alive

Masters of Vitreous Enamel

We are proud to be one of the few remaining masters in the art of vitreous enamelling. This practice is a rare art, revitalised through our in house Enamellers' using their traditional skills alongside innovative new techniques to create charming pieces of jewellery for our clients.
