9金と18金のカフリンクスの主な違いは、含まれている純金の量です。カラットは金の純度を表す単位で、24分率で表されます。したがって、9金は24分の9が純金であることを意味し、18金は24分の18が純金であることを意味します。18金は75%が純金で25%がその他の金属（銀や銅など）であるのに対し、9金は37.5%が純金で62.5%がその他の金属です。このカラット数の違いにより、9金は18金よりも黄色みが少なく、明るさも劣ります。また、18金カフリンクスは9金カフリンクスよりも多くの金を含んでいるため、価格も高くなります。
