FAQs
What is crystal?
Crystal refers to natural rock crystal; a clear, colourless quartz long prized in fine jewellery. Known for its purity and soft glow, it can be carved or faceted to create a refined finish. At Deakin & Francis, we shape crystal into elegant domed or layered forms, adding depth and a subtle touch of brilliance to our designs.
Are crystal cufflinks too delicate for everyday wear?
When made with care and set into robust, well-made mountings, crystal cufflinks can be perfectly suitable for regular day-to-day wear. Their durability really comes down to the quality of the materials and how well the stone is secured: a neatly set crystal in a sturdy sterling silver or gold frame will hold up well while still showing off its natural shine. As crystal is inherently more sensitive to knocks and scratches than metal, a little mindful handling is recommended. Keeping your cufflinks stored safely and giving them a gentle clean now and then will help maintain their clarity and character.
Can crystal cufflinks be personalised?
Yes. Many of our crystal cufflinks can be personalised, making them a thoughtful gift to be treasured for years. With our in-house engraver, we can add initials, dates, or other meaningful details to the clasps and, on certain designs, even to the face of the crystal itself with impressive precision.
