The House of Deakin & Francis

Unique Creative Luxury Since 1786

A legacy forged over two centuries ago, the House of Deakin & Francis represents generations of British craftsmanship, where heritage and innovation exist in perfect balance.

1786

The Beginning

Founded in 1786 by Benjamin Woolfield, Deakin & Francis was established in Birmingham’s thriving Jewellery Quarter during the Industrial Revolution. From its earliest days, the House was rooted in craftsmanship, precision and an entrepreneurial spirit that would shape its future. More than two centuries later, the House remains in the very same workshop where it began - an enduring symbol of continuity and authenticity.

19TH & 20TH CENTURY

Evolution

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Deakin & Francis became renowned as master silversmiths, producing exceptional pieces for some of the world’s most iconic brands and figures. Operating primarily as a manufacturer, the business expanded significantly, at one point employing over 200 skilled craftsmen. As demand grew, the workshop evolved into a fully industrialised factory—yet the commitment to quality and craftsmanship remained unchanged.

TODAY

The Present

Now led by seventh-generation Managing Director Henry Deakin, the business has transformed into a brand in its own right. While continuing to honour its manufacturing heritage, Deakin & Francis now creates distinctive collections defined by craftsmanship, creativity and character. Working with precious metals, fine gemstones and vitreous enamel, the House continues to produce pieces that reflect both its history and its modern identity.

21ST CENTURY

The Future

Through world wars, economic change and global uncertainty, Deakin & Francis has endured - adapting to the needs of its clients while remaining true to its values. That same resilience defines the House as it looks ahead. With a steadfast team of skilled craftsmen and a commitment to excellence, Deakin & Francis continues to build on its legacy - creating pieces designed to last for generations to come.

FAMILY & LEADERSHIP

7 Generations

Deakin & Francis is one of England’s oldest family-run jewellers, with knowledge and expertise passed down through seven generations.

Today, the House is led by Managing Director Henry Deakin, a qualified gemmologist and alumnus of the International Gemological Institute. Following in the footsteps of his forefathers, he brings together heritage and modern vision - ensuring the brand continues to evolve while remaining true to its origins.

CRAFTSMANSHIP & DESIGN

Defined by Detail

At Deakin & Francis, every piece begins with a hand-drawn sketch - an expression of creativity guided by centuries of experience.

Our expert team oversees each stage of the journey, from initial concept through to final production. We are proud custodians of traditional techniques, using tools and methods passed down through generations, while embracing modern technologies to achieve the exceptional finish synonymous with the House.

It is this balance of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary innovation that defines every Deakin & Francis creation.

Masters of Vitreous Enamel

One of the House’s most distinctive specialisms is the rare art of vitreous enamelling.

As one of the few remaining masters of this craft, Deakin & Francis continues to preserve and advance this intricate technique in-house. Our skilled enamellers combine traditional methods with innovative approaches, creating pieces celebrated for their depth of colour, character and enduring beauty.
